Physical & comfort properties of spun silk knitted fabrics

Knitted Yarn Spun silk threads are soft, but they are less lustrous than reeled silk and are not as strong or elastic. Spun silk fabric tends to become fuzzy after wearing because the yarn is made of short staple. Spun silk is less expensive than reeled silk. Although pun silk has less strength and elasticity than reeled silk because of the shorter staple used, it posses all the general characteristics of reeled silk.Silk fabric made of spun siIk yet gives good service when the quality of the fibre is good. Spun silk is used for pile fabrics, dress trimmings and linings, elastic webbing, sewing silk, summer wear silks, velvets, umbrella fabrics and insulation. In this article, geometrical properties of spun silk knitted fabric are elaborately discussed. Spun silk yarn has been knitted in to three different knit structures.

Mantero Seta preview latest S/S collection

jacquard fabric The season of change. PE 08 marks the path with seductive solutions but finally.Mantero proceeds along its chosen path of in-depth research and experiments into rich, 3D and increasingly high-performance textures, more interesting because of their able mix of different threads.Volume and lightness combined in the same fabric, the fibres becoming hybrid, the cottons looking to the silk and the silk playing with the synthetic fibres. The jacquard fabric paints 3D effects in its triples and quadruples; the prints are micronized or giant. Geometric shapes are inspired by the organic, nature dressed as the city and vice versa, seeking a soft severity, sensual but rarefied.Embroidery does not disappear, but is simplified; lurex is aged and never sparkling; the accessory is important but not obvious; the male look comes to the forefront as a source of inspiration. Seduction is sought with gentile elegance, subtle vibrations more internalised and less noticeable. An important comeback for shantung, in the polished, elegant version; the potency of structured, compact and rigorous cotton. Curious and intriguing the raffia weave fabric.Technical but attractive the cotton fabric printed with a mix of fluorescent and silicone pigments. Bright red, golden yellow and aquamarine are the outsiders in a season tending towards neutral, of powdered light colours, faded sorbets.

Kia K2900 light truck ups the ante

Grey Cloth The Korean firm recently launched the Kia K2900 CRDi light truck, the evolution model of the K2700 which first appeared in Australia in 2002.More than 4200 K2700s were sold in Australia after the little truck with the huge tray grabbed the attention of plumbers, electricians, landscape gardeners, parks and reserves departments and motorway maintenance crews. The 3.11-metre tray, with all three sides dropable, was an ideal vehicle for those wanting to carry bulky or long items which were not necessarily very heavy. The K2900 basically rectifies any criticisms levelled at the previous model. The engine has come in for a huge update. It is now a common rail turbocharged effort putting out nearly 60 per cent more power and nearly 50 per cent more torque.Gross vehicle mass of the cab-chassis model has been increased to 3290kg, an improvement of 13 per cent over the K2700.Payload has been increased from one tonne to a maximum of 1740kg (cab-chassis) or 1481kg with the optional factory steel tray. So the K2900 retains all the attributes that made it attractive while rectifying the shortcomings. The K2900 has a 2902cc four-cylinder engine that features double overhead camshafts, Common Rail Direct injection, a waste gate turbocharger and an intercooler. The Euro-IV compliant diesel produces maximum power of 92kW at 3800rpm, sufficient to get the K2900 up to a top speed of 140km/h. But more importantly, maximum torque is now 245Nm at 2000rpm with more than 90 per cent of that from 1500-3200rpm.Coupled with an all-synchromesh five-speed gearbox, the engine proved flexible and torquey. Indeed wet weather starts with the truck empty had the rear wheels spinning frantically. And in usual common rail fashion, the engine was such a willing performer it was a constant job making sure the speedo stayed below the limit. The 2900 had power to burn. The five-speed box was easy to use with the gate well defined. While the synchromesh worked well if gear changes were at a moderate rate rather than rushed, double clutching seemed to make the changes an even smoother operation. The increase in performance has been achieved without a corresponding increase in costs. Kia claims it's 10.2litres/100km, 6 per cent less fuel use than the 2700 and nearly 5 per cent less CO2 output than the older, smaller engine.K2900 comes with different size wheels front to back. Steering is performed by 15-inch wheels while 12-inch rears keep the tray low. A front and a rear spare wheel are carried at the rear of the truck under the tray.Front suspension is double wishbone with torsion bars and gas shock absorbers and a stabiliser bar, while the rear has multi-leaf springs with gas shock absorbers. Empty, the ride is a little bouncy at the front which is only to be expected in a cab-over configuration, with the vast majority of the weight over the front axles. The ventilated, power-assisted front discs and the rear drum brakes worked well, feeling more than adequate and with good progression and pedal feel much better than some cars.Inside, the cabin has not changed much. The 2900 comes with manual airconditioning, a single CD player and AM/FM radio with twin speakers, Urban Grey cloth interior, remote central locking, power front windows, twin grab handles for access, and twin dual-pane convex exterior mirrors.Instruments consist of analogue rev counter and speedo fuel gauge and water temperature gauge. There is a centre seat (making it a three-seater) on which, when not in action, the backrest drops down revealing a storage tray and twin cupholders. The driver and outside passenger get lap/sash seatbelts while the middle passenger has to make do with a lap only belt. ADRs for light trucks do not require anti-lock brakes, airbags or stability control and none are fitted.Given recent tragic accidents where a number of toddlers have been killed as people reversed over them, Kia is justified in making it well known the K2900 is the best tray top or ute for safe reversing. This rating was bestowed by the NRMA and confirmed with a glance from the relatively high cab rear window over the low-set tray.Perhaps the biggest criticism of the cabin is that the moulded protrusion on the driver's door for a cup holder sometimes seems very close to the driver's right leg and constant rubbing could become a nuisance. The steering wheel is adjustable only for tilt. The 2900 has a five-year, 130,000km warranty. The cab-chassis sells for $28,990. The optional factory steel tray lifts the price to $30,490.

Luxury Abounds in Lexus Hybrid

Artificial Suede You may think of hybrids as clean, green, little cars that get great gas mileage, but the Lexus LS 600h L is not one of those. The official EPA ratings for this car are 20 mpg City, 22 mpg Highway. I averaged 20.5 mpg. For comparison, the non-hybrid LS 600 L is rated at 16 City, 24 Highway. That’s not a compelling difference. No, the LS 600h L is a big, beautiful, powerful car. The twoand- a-half-ton sedan stretches nearly 17 feet long. At first, my Verdigris Mica test car made me feel unworthy — this surely is the ride choice of CEOs and rich people, not me. But the LS turned out to be as tractable as a Toyota Camry. The first Lexus vehicles looked like Mercedes-Benzes; but, today, the L-finesse styling template gives us distinctive, compelling shapes with muscular haunches, complex surface detail and extras like projector headlamps with blue crystal rings. The goal is to stand out, but not too much — a delicate balance that appears to be working for the brand so far.Inside, luxury abounds. Leather is “semi-aniline,” which must mean “top quality.” Leather not only covers the heated and cooled seats and lower part of the heated steering wheel, but it spreads onto the instrument panel, upper front doors, door armrests, first-aid kit, key fob and owner’s manual cover. The headliner is made from Alcantara, convincing looking artificial suede. The shifter combines chrome and real wood.Being an “L” model, the LS 600h L has five extra inches of legroom that gives the car a limousine feel. Those lucky rear passengers also get heated seats and their own power sunshade. Everyone enjoys incredible quietness. With its 5.0-liter V8 gas engine, two electric motors and all-wheel drive, this car puts out an astounding 438 horsepower — all the better to move from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.5 seconds. It’s sort of a Corvette for five. The LS can move along on pure electricity. I got it up to 25 mph in a level neighborhood one evening without using a drop of gas. Crawling commutes can also be fuelless. If you want to ensure a pure-electric function, you can select the EV drive switch to specifically request electric power only, for a short distance at a slow speed. The car shuts down at stoplights, too.The LS 600h L has a continuously variable automatic transmission for maximum efficiency. However, if you set the transmission in the “S” position (sport), it provides stirring gearlike bursts of acceleration and deceleration. The non-hybrid LS 460 L earns EPA Green Vehicle ratings of 7 for Air Pollution and 6 for Greenhouse Gases. The hybrid version boosts the Air Pollution numbers to 9 and boasts a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) EPA rating. As the corporate icon, the LS 600h L contains some very special features. You can order the Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS), which my tester had as part of the Premium Package II. APCS detects pedestrians in the car’s way using two small frontmounted cameras and radar. A third camera on the steering column keeps track of the driver. If he or she isn’t looking ahead for more than a few seconds and the car is approaching an obstacle, APCS rings a warning chime and flashes a light. Then, it gradually starts braking the car and gets the seatbelts ready for possible impact. It even reprograms the steering ratio for extra-quick response. With the Advanced Parking Guidance System, once you’ve placed the car in the right place, it will park itself, with you controlling the speed by using the brakes. I did not test this feature, but you’ve seen it on TV.The LS 600h L features a standard 19-speaker, 450-watt Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound audio system. Perhaps some of the money you save by listening to music in your car instead of going to a concert hall will help pay the bill for this amazing vehicle. The sticker on this beauty is startlingly high. The base price is $104,000; and, by the time you add in the Premium Package II, a couple of premium floor mats and shipping, you’re looking at $117,119. Whew! For that you could buy everyone in your family their own Prius!Seriously, though, if you see the LS 600h L as a showpiece for everything Lexus can do (and there’s plenty more that I haven’t described here), it makes more sense. This ultimate Lexus is ultra big, supremely comfortable, very powerful, extremely well crafted and, just for a cherry on top, is a hybrid, too.
